About the workshop

Optimization is the engine of modern data science. Training a model, fitting a statistical estimator, or making a decision under uncertainty all come down to solving very large optimization problems, often from noisy, sampled, or streaming data.

This workshop brings together researchers working on large-scale and stochastic optimization and on its connections to machine learning and statistical learning: algorithms that scale to massive and distributed data, methods that cope with randomness and risk, and the theory that explains when and why they work. The program runs in a single track over two days, with about eight invited talks a day and time for discussion. Faculty, postdocs, and doctoral students are all welcome.
